New beginnings start with goodbyes.
Today, last year, the weather was nice. My hair was short and I was having the worst nose breakout of a lifetime. I bought a new red lipstick called “Budapest.”
Today, this year, the weather is also nice. My hair is long enough for a substantial ponytail and my skin is doing great. I bought an iced coffee and small fries from McDonald’s to fuel my trip home.
The year went by so quickly but it also felt like a lifetime. I went from justifying to people that Kitchener isn’t that bad, to wishing I had spent more time learning to love it.
Even though years have passed, there doesn’t seem to be a change in my tendency to become attached to places rather than people. And I continue to miss fragments of the cities I can’t forget.
